Happy Birthday Hans!
There are so many great memories to share! I remember "Hans at 50" in NYC, I think that may have been the first time I ever tasted (good) white wine ( Chardonnay, no doubt!!) Some other great memories:
- Driving the jeep on the Cape, from the Beechcomber to a gas station on 6, running on fumes and I imagine you were pretty steamed at Christoph and I but you never let on…
- Meet-ups in Portland for drinks or dinner. Especially the time that you gave me one of the best pieces of advice from anyone ever - that I had found a 'keeper' in Kari.
- Countless Noetzli family barbecues by the pool and letting me share in the radishes and salt.
- Letting me borrow various vehicles as if I were an adopted son.
- Caravan road trip to Boston to show Christoph and I all the different schools.
- Dropping us off, bikes and all, at EWR, as Christoph and I embarked on the trip that would forever set my love for travel (and showing us how to check our bikes curbside all the way to Klosters, something I still find amazing).
- Teaching me to ski, and showing me how to use the mountain instead of fighting it. That little nugget of advice has served me in many parts of life...
...And of course, perhaps at the top of the heap for me, - riding in the snowcat with the driver and a random ski bunny in white out conditions!
I recently saw a TED talk about a 'Council of Dads' and immediately thought of you. You are on my council. When I needed it most you were an incredible example of how to be a man. And really, when you get right down to it, a shining example of how to live a life in this world. Keep it up!!!
Much love,
Doug, Kari, Torin, Myra and Brynn.
